ABSTRAKSI: Kebutuhan akan layanan informasi memasuki abad 21 akan semakin meningkat dengan tingkat dan ragam layanan yang diinginkan oleh customer yang semakin kompleks. Khususnya pada link Medan - Padang yang masih dilayani oleh gelombang microwave diperkirakan tidak akan mampu menampung jumlah permintaan yang akan semakin meningkat pada tahun - tahun mendatang. Karena itu permasalahan ini akan diatasi dengan membangun link serat optik yang menghubungkan kedua kota tersebut.<br> Tugas akhir ini mencoba membuat perencanaan system komunikasi serat optik antara kedua kota tersebut. Dengan konfigurasi jaringan point to point menggunakan serat optik single mode dengan panjang gelombang operasi 1550 nm. Format sinyal adalah NRZ dengan sumber optik adalah Laser Diode (LD) dan fotodetektor Avalanche Photodiode (APD). Jenis kabel darat yang digunakan adalah direct buried cable, perhitungan dilakukan dengan dua jenis kabel yang berbeda yaitu Non Dispersion Shifted Fiber (NDSF) dan Non Zero Dispersion Shifted Fiber (NZDSF). Kedua jenis kabel memerlukan jumIah regenerator yang sama yaitu 3 buah.Kata Kunci : ABSTRACT: The requirement of information services will enter the 21st century, it will pogresively increasing with level and kind of service of the desired by customer which complex progressively. Specially at link Medan - Padang which still be served by microwave estimated will not able to accomodate the amount of requirement that progressively increasing in the years to come. In consequence these problems will be overcome by developing fibre optic link that will connecting both of the city and the cities betwen them.<br> This Final Project is trying to make a network planning of fiber optic communication system among both cities. The configuraton of network is point to point fibre of optic of single of mode with wavelength operate Is 1550 nm. format of signal is NRZ with source of optic is Laser Diode (LD) And the fotodetector is Avalanche Photodiode (APD). Type of land cable used is direct buried cable, caIkulation conducted with two type of different cable that is the Non Dispersion Shifted Fiber (NDSF) and Non Zero Dispersion Shifted Fiber (NZDSF).
