Many conversations about feminist issues today begin and end on the internet. In recent years, social media has become the home of various movements that have helped shape the crossroads of contemporary feminism. Many new media and NGOs have sprung up to mobilize their movement through digital media, better known as cyberfeminism. One of the cyberfeminism movements that are actively engaged in the campus realm today is Girl Up Indonesia. Girl Up is a global movement of young women leaders who advocate for gender equality and recognize the value of leadership development for young women, which was formed in 2010 by the United Nations Foundation, and is spread across several countries, including Indonesia. Girl Up Indonesia itself was founded in 2019 and later established several Girl Up clubs spread across several areas and campuses, and they use Instagram as their platform. Girl Up Indonesia is feminist digital activism that provides a safe platform for young Indonesian women, which aims to open networks, support each other, and fight for women's empowerment in Indonesia. Girl Up Indonesia actively uses digital media such as Instagram to encourage its activism. The author is interested in analyzing how Girl Up Indonesia uses social media, especially Instagram as a place to voice feminism. This analysis is dissected using Cammaerts (2015) theory, namely The Role of Social Media in Digital Activism. This study uses ethnographic qualitative research methods by collecting data through interviews and bold observations. The results show that the cyberfeminism activities carried out by Girl Up Indonesia on Instagram are in line with the theory of the role of social media internally (inward) and externally (outward) in digital activism by Cammaerts.
