Abstract
This study explores the innovative combination of Indonesian Batik Pesisir motifs with Kazakh decorative elements and aims to promote cultural exchange and artistic innovation in the field of textile design. Known for its intricate techniques, symbolic designs and cultural significance, Indonesian batik offers a rich canvas for combining foreign artistic traditions. Kazakh ornaments, with their geometric patterns and deep-rooted cultural meanings, offer an opportunity for a harmonious artistic fusion. This study investigates the possible aesthetic compatibility and technical feasibility of combining these two different artistic traditions and assessing the cultural. The research uses a qualitative approach and user- centered design principles to gather insights from batik artisans, cultural experts, and potential consumers through observations, interviews, and surveys in both Indonesia and Kazakhstan. Fieldwork in well-known batik centers in Bandung, Pekalongan, Yogyakarta and interviews with key stakeholders provide a comprehensive understanding of traditional batik-making techniques and the symbolic language of Kazakh decoration. An iterative design process combines digital tools with traditional batik techniques allowing Kazakh motifs carefully integrate into batik designs. The findings show a promising aesthetic synergy between the flowing lines of Batik Pesisir and the structural motifs of Kazakh ornaments, resulting in visually appealing and culturally rich designs. The technical integration of these motifs into the batik production process is possible, allowing for innovative design experiments while preserving the cultural integrity of both art forms. The positive response from survey participants highlights the potential of this merger to increase batik's global appeal and marketability, promoting cultural appreciation and artistic dialogue. This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of cross-cultural artistic innovation and provides practical insights for artists and designers. Promoting mutual enrichment through artistic collaboration, the studyemphasizes the importance of preserving and developing traditional art forms in a globalized world.
