ABSTRAKSI: Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) dikenal pula dengan nama Polymer Electrolite Membrane Fuel Cell merupakan salah satu jenis fuel cell yang menggunakan elektrolit berbahan polimer . PEMFC saat ini mulai mendapat perhatian sebagai sumber energi terbarukan karena memiliki beberapa keunggulan, seperti efisiensinya yang tinggi (>50%) bahkan dapat mencapai 80%, dan memiliki kisaran daya mulai dari miliwatt sampai dengan megawatt.
Ter lepas dari keunggulan tersebut, terdapat beberapa permasalahan pada PEMFC. PEMFC sensitif terhadap kontaminasi zat asing khususnya CO ( CO - poisoning) yang dapat menonaktifkan katalisator pada fuel cell , kinetik yang rendah, dan perlunya pengaturan humiditas . Oleh karena itu, untuk mengatasi beberapa permasalahan diatas diperlukan fuel cell dengan suhu tinggi ( high temperature PEMFC). Dengan demikian diperlukan desain membran yang baru. Polimer yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah polimer berbahan dasar polistiren tersulfonasi (sPS) dengan penambahan ma triks Polyethylene - grafted - Maleic Anhydride ( PE - g - MAH) dan ditambahkan dengan asam fosfat (H 3 PO 4 ) serta larutan supramolekular.
Membran akan dikarakterisasi dengan SEM - EDS (Scanning Elect r on Microscope - Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy ), FTIR (Fouri er Transform Infrared), EIS (Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy), dan Cyclic Voltammetry.KATA KUNCI: fuel cell, PEMFC, katalisator, asam fosfat (H 3 PO 4 ), supramolekular, polistiren tersulfonasi (sPS), PE - g - MAH, SEM - EDS, FTIR, EIS, Cyclic Voltammetry.ABSTRACT: Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is also known by the name of Electrolite Polymer Membrane Fuel Cell is one type of fuel cell that uses a polymer - based electrolyte. Apart from these advantages, there are some problems in the PEMFC. PEMFC contamination sensitive to foreign substances, especially CO (CO - poisoning) which can deactivate the catalyst in the fuel cell, a low kinetic, and the need for humidity settings. Therefore, to overcome some of the problems above required fuel cell with high temperature (high temperature PEMFC). This calls for a new membrane design. Polymers used in this study is based polymers sulfonated polystyrene (SPS) with the addition of polyethylene - grafted - Maleic Anhydride (PE - g - MAH) and added with phosphoric acid (H3PO4) and supramolekular solution.
